D-Day Trails of Normandy offers a deeply immersive walking experience through one of the most historically significant regions of France.

This tour follows the footsteps of the Allied forces as you explore the beaches, battlegrounds, and memorials that shaped the course of World War II. From the iconic landing sites of Omaha Beach to the well-preserved German Battery at Longues-sur-Mer, you’ll walk through history while enjoying the natural beauty and rich culture of Normandy.

Normandy is a captivating blend of tranquil countryside and a tumultuous past. Known for its rolling green fields, orchards, and serene coastline, the region’s landscapes provide a stark contrast to the pivotal events of D-Day.

On this tour, you will not only witness the famous war sites but also enjoy the medieval charm of towns like Bayeux, home to the legendary Bayeux Tapestry and a stunning Gothic cathedral. Whether you're strolling through Arromanches with its remnants of the Mulberry Harbour, or standing in silent reflection at the American War Cemetery, the region invites deep contemplation of both the past and present.

This tour provides a well-rounded experience, combining history with local culture. You’ll walk along scenic coastal paths and through picturesque villages, stopping to explore war bunkers, memorials, and Romanesque architecture.

Beyond its history, Normandy is famous for its cider, cheeses, and seafood, and the itinerary includes ample opportunities to indulge in local specialties at traditional cafés and markets. You can enjoy a leisurely pace or challenge yourself with longer hikes, making the tour accessible to travelers of all levels.

This tour is designed for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or prefer a leisurely pace, the carefully planned routes cater to all and has the option to ease the longer stages.

We take care of all the logistics, so you can focus on the journey. From booking comfortable local accommodations to providing detailed GPS tracks and insights on every landmark, we ensure your trip is seamless. Our additional support during the tour guarantees peace of mind, whether you need help with logistics or recommendations for hidden gems along the way. With us, you can experience the rich history and natural beauty of Normandy without any stress.

Are you ready to discover the profound impact of the D-Day landings, enjoy the sweeping coastal vistas, and wander through picturesque villages that bring the past to life?

Our walking holidays are designed to cater to a range of fitness levels. We offer everything from leisurely strolls through vineyards and coastal paths to more challenging mountain hikes. However, it’s always a good idea to have a basic level of fitness to fully enjoy the experience.

Yes, our walking holidays can be enjoyed by the whole family. However, the suitability of certain tours for children may depend on the specific itinerary and the child’s age and fitness level. We recommend contacting us directly to discuss the best options for your family.

We recommend sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. The terrain can vary from smooth paths to rocky trails, so footwear should have good grip and ankle support. Waterproof shoes are also a good idea in case of wet weather.

Yes, we recommend booking your walking holiday in advance. This allows us to secure the best accommodations and ensures that you have ample time to prepare for your adventure.

We carefully select our accommodations to enhance your walking holiday experience. Depending on the tour, this could range from charming local inns and bed and breakfasts to more luxurious hotels. All accommodations are chosen for their comfort, hospitality, and proximity to our walking routes.

France is a year-round destination, but the best time for a walking holiday depends on the region. Spring and autumn are generally ideal, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. However, some regions, like the French Alps, are best enjoyed in the summer, while others, like the French Riviera, offer pleasant walking conditions even in winter.

Safety is our top priority. In case of bad weather, we have contingency plans in place. This could involve suggesting an alternative route or activity for the day. We also provide support and advice on how to handle different weather conditions.

Walking Holidays Slovenia is great! They provided all of the information and made the arrangements for our self guided walk in Triglav National Park. We hiked to Vodnikov Dom the first day, then to the Seven Lakes Basin the second day, then back to Ribcev Laz the third day. The trails were well marked, and the GPS app recommended by Walking Holidays Slovenia was very helpful for keeping us on track. The trails were very rocky in places, which was a bit of a challenge for us, but it was so beautiful! Very much recommend this company!

We had an incredible time on the 5 day hut to hut hike in Croatia. The views were perfect, the accommodation much nicer than we imagined and we had a fantastic support guide - Ivan - who was very friendly and made the whole trip possible. We were also able to go to the beach most days after we finished our hiking and everything was very flexible. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

having any guarantees about what we were getting. It was a foreign company that we couldn’t find much information about, so there was a lot of anticipation regarding what kind of information we would receive, the standard of the hotels, and whether the luggage transport would work. But everything has gone smoothly. You responded quickly when we contacted you on WhatsApp, and you were solution-oriented. The hikes were great — we made a few adjustments due to the heat on the first day. I was active on social media, and many people have been impressed by the trip. I’ve shared the link to your website with around 10 friends. If you need a reference for other Norwegians, that’s no problem. I’ve posted some videos from the trip on my Instagram: @bjorghatloy. Thank you so much for the trip!

My husband and I recently completed a Walking Holiday of the Amalfi Coast for 11 days, which was absolutely fantastic and the highlight of our trip to Italy. The travel agents who organised the tour Anja and Samo were very helpful, adjusting and customising it to suit our requests. The accomodation booked for us was very comfortable and the transfer of our luggage from hotel to hotel took place with no issues. Our hiking guides including Alessandra, Marcella and Diego were all exceptional. They were friendly, supportive and extremely knowledgable about the towns and regions we walked in. They ensured we had a fantastic experience creating memories, while enjoying the walking, the amazing views, the tasty food and the beautiful Italian culture. I highly recommend this walking tour and would encourage anyone who was planning a similar holiday to book through this company. It was a great way to see and experience the Amalfi Coast.

Tour was very well organised with lots of information to help guide us through the holiday. All the accommodation was great. Particularly liked the self catering Glamping Mountain Fairytale and the Berghi Hotel. Food at the Hotel Starkl restaurant was great as well. The route took us through a beautiful part of the country on quiet roads and cycle paths. The cycle paths are much better than in the UK and I would also like to say that Slovenian car drivers are much more patient and tolerant than many drivers in the UK. Beautiful country. Really enjoyed it.
